Are We Creating or Destroying?

When we were kids we used to explore creativity all the time. We created amazing alternate worlds, imaginary friends, clay masterpieces, abstract paintings, best selling novels, outstanding plays. Picasso said one time: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” We grow up and we let society shape the adult we become. I always wanted to sign, I dream was to become a singer but it always seemed foolish to me, you always hear that is foolish to pursue your “hobby” or a creative career. We unconsciously adopt beliefs, ideas, habits that don’t belong to us. We embark in this tramp leaving behind our inner child and shutting down our intuition.

It took me 20 years to even consider that I was creating art, I never saw myself as an artist because I never saw art in my photography. When I chose a creative career, I found lot of insecurity in sharing my work, there was no heart connected to the action. I always bought the idea that artists were these isolated tormented people who could only create based on how miserable they were. I come from a generation that believed artists will always starve, die alone, and refuse to “sell out” to an industry. After I realized I wasn’t able to create when I was sad or miserable, I had to kill these ideas and other habits that were destroying my creativity. I became aware of my creative energy, my value, and I realized that when I balance my masculine and feminine energy, creation begins. I started to connect my heart and truly listen to my intuition.

I believe everyone is creative. Whether we declare ourselves an artist or not, we make creative choices every day. We are handcrafting and creating a unique life whether we feel we are “artistic” or not. Creativity invites us to explore, to create solutions, to know ourselves, to move, to live beyond control and limitations. If we let ourselves loose control, comparing ourselves to others, and self-doubt, we could really find liberation and a true voice. Expectations and perfection usually come from other people’s standards, let’s construct the person we want to be based on what we want. Enjoying the path we are walking will make us express our love through the connection we have with our surroundings, it’s not about other people’s perceptions, it’s about what we can become in the process of creation that really define our growth.

We were taught that we need a middle man in order to connect with divinity, to connect with ourselves. I believe that divinity is already inside of us and when we connect with it we will find the infinite power to create anything our heart desires. I still find myself creating obstacles and excuses not to give a step forward, it’s a constant challenge for me, then I remember that people write novels in prisons, and that any excuse I give myself is beyond invalid. Let’s not be afraid of being wrong and loose ourselves, because it is in true darkness that we will find our true light.

I want to share with you some of my beloved treasures created by my favorite artists.
